Other Important Info. in our Dept:NEWSELA.com
This is a great way for students to have a choice about what to read. Newsela comes up with new informational articles daily about sports, science, politics, media and kids. Students will need to choose an article and a lexile level. Sometimes an article has been assigned to them to match our theme. Either of the lower two lexile levels usually work. When they are done, they should take a quiz to see how well they understand what they are reading. Parents lead Mini-Courses from 1:30 to 2:30 one Friday each month. In the past we've had classes such as sports like volleyball and basketball, lots of crafts, sewing, poetry writing, beading, yoga, cooking, arcade building, computers, scientific discoveries, first aid, Spanish, and one-minute mysteries, just to mention a few. Mini-courses are a great way for parents to show a talent or teach a new skill. (Some parents come every month!) and it's a whole lot of fun!
This may start off this 2020 school year as a virtual option. Think of how you can show a skill / play a game/ teach a science skill/ give instructions on how to do something to a group of students virtually. MINI COURSE DATES THIS YEAR: 8/28, 9/25, 10/30, 12/11, 1/29, 2/26, 4/30, 5/ 21 Give us a week's notice if you need us to gather a list of materials for your mini-course. PARENT PARTICIPATIONThe "Founding Parents" of Open Plan established a guideline of ONE HOUR of volunteer time PER WEEK per child of parent participation for each family and $130 per child to help fund the variety of field trips and experiences offered at FOP to enrich student learning. These are essential to the success of Open Plan! Complete and return your Parent Participation Form as soon as possible and pay your FOP parent fund drive obligation online.

You will miss important reminders, if you do not sign up. Please sign up for each grade relevant to your family.
Send a TEXT MESSAGE to the phone number 81010 (this does not look like a typical phone number, but it is a "texting" number). The body of the text should simply be @code. See appropriate codes below.
